Every month I share some of the things that I shove into my toolbox, it could be a useful blog post, a book I’ve read, a website or article… here are my favourites for March:
A How To: Do you self-publish? Do you use Amazon’s KDP programme to distribute your books? Do you struggle with formatting your blurb and html? This blog on the Alliance of Independent Authors maybe just for you… and it gives a handy link to something that might do it all for you.
A Course: I use a tool called Scrivener to write, organise and edit my work. It’s a fantastic piece of kit but I only probably understand a small part of it… so I’ve bought this handy course Storytelling with Scrivener – when it was on offer 😉 Although it’s Mac based, a lot of it is very relevant for Windows users.
A Website: I’m a big procrastinator with a capital P but have been trying to wean myself away from the distractions that the big wide web can offer. However, if you are a fantasy writer (and I’m new to the game as a writer, but an avid reader) – then the Wordsmyths community could be the place for you.
An App: What would a world be like without apps? When I’m writing the first draft of a project it’s easy to see how well I’m doing (or not) through wordcount. When editing, however, that’s not so easy… so I use the free version of the Toggl App to record the time I spend on certain projects. It can be very motivating, as long as you remember to set the timer (habit forming) and it uses the Pomodoro technique to remind you to take a short break!
